Queen of distraction

Isn't it always the days you are supposed to finish something, like something very urgent, when all other things are looking too teasing, like for example writing something on the blog or anything? Well, for me it is not always easy to write, and my thoughts tend to come and go too fast and I barely take the time to actually catch them, write them down and share them, and think them all over again, a bit more slowly. I should.
But it mostly never comes to it.
Right now I am busy, should only focus on my work.

Anyways, I have a 1000 topics in mind to write about but I am going to postpone that.
Besides that, my mind also suggests to
a) go running
b) clean the house  walk Josie
c) make a cup of tea
d) read the news
e) make a cup of tea
f) ...

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Aaarrrghhhh.
In the meantime, I will keep calm and carry on.

Love,
Svenja, Queen of distraction.

Tuesday

P S Krøyer

Today I discovered a new artist.
I saw the paintings and fell in love with his works straight away:
P S Krøyer, a Danish artist (1851-1909) belonged to the artist group Skagenmaler, derived from the fact that they have been working around the most Northern town of Denmark, Skagen.

To me his works have a fascinating touch of lightness, and I love how he is using the light in the garden scenes.
I am not too involved with art history very much but to me his works give a certain calmness, and although he is using "colder" colors it appears warm to me and flattering instead of spreading the Nordic atmosphere which mostly is referred to as rough and cold, sometimes surrounded by some sort of unpleasant feeling.

Here are a few:

50 shades of Grey

After only hearing about it I am now the latest victim of E L James' bestseller.
I am 270 pages through and my naive spirit is bouncing against a new wall -- page after page. Almost. At least that's how it feels.
This is different from everything what I have read so far (and I read a lot) and I am only saying that the heroine is certainly not anything close to the characters of Elizabeth Bennet, Jane Eyre or Marianne Dashwood.
No. A reference to Thomas Hardy is made several times, and having read Tess as well I can say that it is a more a modern Tess than anybody else...

Has anyone else read 50 shades of grey? What do you think? I am not sure what I shall think. Ought to think. Too early. I will post a comment later on my book blog over at happyblue book club.

Oh -- and I think it's time for a re-read of Tess... :-)

Have a great weekend. Mine will be grey.....

Thursday

London 2012

When I lived in London in 2008 the city was already preparing for the games four years later. It was only a question of which tube line was closed / limited service or off service for more than half a year (I guess it was "Bank" when I was there. Complete mess) instead of possible delays...
Now it is finally time for Olympia and the first medals have been handed out. It is not that I am watching everything and anything of the games, but IF the TV is switched on by others and I happen to be around I quickly turn into an Olympic couch potato.

The only thing I really intend to watch if possible is everything equestrian, especially the dressage.

Luckily there is Eurovisionsports which is broadcasting everything. Live. And ready to watch later. Just as you like. Under the motto when you can't be there BE THERE It is awesome. You can find the link to the dressage day 1 here. If you then scroll down there is an easy to handle menu which allows you to find everything you'd like to watch. Enjoy!

Even though I of course hold my fingers crossed for team Germany and the Dutch I am very much looking forward to see Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro and Carl Hester and Uthopia. Such great pairs. I saw them last year at the CHIO Rotterdam. I am sure the Team GB will altogether show a great performance on home soil. Usually Germany and the Netherlands are competing on gold. But who knows... Maybe Team GB will be the contenders of the gold medal?!
